Four star review, originally posted here on March 15, 2023.
I have too many wonderful things to say about this book and I have no time or energy to list them all out. I’ll just say that if you feel like being SUPER depressed, then this book is great for you! I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys Dickens, loves Appalachia, and hates drugs.
PS: I just remembered the only thing about the book that I do not like; the ending. Or rather, one very specific element of the ending. I’m assuming it is based on the original story (David Copperfield) which I have not read, so I guess Kingsolver had to leave it in. But… I dunno, she changed enough other elements that maybe we could have fixed this one. Can’t say more than that, what with the spoilers.
