Three star review, originally posted here on June 19th, 2025.
My review is pretty much the same as every other 3 star review. There’s nothing new or surprising in this book. Surely nobody is surprised to read that Facebook is a pretty shitty evil profit-driven company run by greedy rich people, right? We would have been surprised had it NOT been a toxic work environment full of sexists, hypocrites, and abusers. Is it good that somebody from the inside documented their experiences? Sure. Hence it gets 3 stars.
On the other hand, the author herself had me constantly rolling my eyes. She criticized others for being too snooty, then criticized them for not being snooty enough. She complained about other people’s work-a-holic expectations, but then didn’t draw any of her own boundaries. She begged her way into the company when they told her they didn’t care about diplomacy and only cared about business, and then she was shocked – SHOCKED! – when she the executives didn’t care about diplomacy but only cared about business. For pete’s sake, lady, you’re giving me whiplash.
