Four star review, originally posted here on December 31, 2025:
This is not a book I ever would have thought to pick up on my own. But in one of my classes I ask people to recommend books (to help me find inspiration, and to broaden my own horizons,) and this is the one that was so out of left field I decided to go for it. Look, this book is exactly what it looks like: it’s an action movie in book form. If that sounds like something you’d be into, you’ll love it! If you think that sounds too shallow for you, well, then move on.
This books executes its mission perfectly. We get just the correct amount of character development for each person. Our action scenes are just the correct balance of predictable v unpredictable. We’ve got suspense. We’ve got drama. We’ve got a fun little adventure.
Is it high art? No, not at all. But it’s not meant to be. Just buckle up and enjoy the ride.
