Five star review, originally posted here on December 21, 2020 during a mass-review of pandemic audiobooks.
[DISCLAIMER: I’m catching up on months worth of Audiobook reviews, so writing this quickly and belatedly.]
This book was great, as all the awards and high ratings indicate. Westover’s stories are absolutely crazy, and she is a very talented and intelligent storyteller. I’m already fuzzy on most of the details (writing this review many months after listening to the audiobook), but I particularly remember a point when Westover goes to college and realizes exactly how lacking her education had been up to that point, when a VERY famous and important historical event was a complete mystery to her. That scene was so well-told I can tell you exactly where I was when I listened to it, cuz it was such a gut-punch.
